Join in this year’s Tilda Food Sustainability Challenge
Looking for a project that can help you engage with school pupils? Tilda’s Food Sustainability Challenge 2024 might be the answer.
Tilda Foodservice - working together with Food and Drink Federation (FDF) Scotland - has thrown down the gauntlet to S1-3 pupils across Scotland to design a new rice-based food product alongside any by-product or that utilises “food waste” and uses local produce.
The annual national challenge is launching on 20 August with a closing date of 1 November.
As an Ambassador, you can post an offer of help to your local school using our template in the community library.
Designed to develop an understanding of sustainability, employability skills and the skills required to work in food and drink, this activity supports healthy eating and social responsibility.
By supporting the pupils with their challenge, you can help raise their awareness of the journey that our food makes as well as support educators to deliver the curriculum and encourage interdisciplinary learning.
And of course, it is a great way to show the amazing variety of career opportunities in the food & drink industry through the new product development process.
This year, the organisers are asking for something different – they want teams to make a short video or TikTok detailing their product.
So maybe your team decides to take a traditional product or a food linked to a festival and giving it a twist that can help to reduce food waste – can you help them with expert knowledge on resealable packaging, or portion control packaging?
Or perhaps you can inspire them to think about using food products that might otherwise go into landfill? Or think about environmentally friendly cooking processes, utensils and packaging and how would they reduce food waste during production.
Your experience and knowledge would be greatly appreciated and you can get involved by contacting your local school directly, or our project co-ordinator Mary Holland can help.
As an extra incentive, you can also help your chosen school win £100 worth of kitchen equipment as well as £100 for the winning team.
Entries have to be submitted by 1 November so it’s definitely time to get in touch with your offer of help.
