Overview

The Royal Environmental Health Institute of Scotland (REHIS) is a long established awarding body in Scotland for a number of qualifications in Food Safety, Food and Health, Control of Infection and Occupational Health and Safety.

The Institute has made the REHIS Food Hygiene qualifications available to secondary schools since 1993 and the REHIS Elementary Food and Health course is now also available.  As well as providing pupils with a nationally and industry recognised qualification, which will be of use to them and future employers, the course can also play an important role in helping schools in Scotland meet the SQA Curriculum for Excellence, Health and Wellbeing (Food and Health) experiences and outcomes.

Both courses have been independently credit rated on the Scottish Credit and Qualification Framework (SCQF) and are levelled at SCQF Level 5 and awarded 1 credit.

Secondary School Home Economics Departments may apply to become Centres for delivering the courses to students aged between 13 and 18, attending the school full-time. Each Home Economics teacher who will present the course is required to register with REHIS.
